How To Use Keywords Effectively
June 16, 2009 by: sear1ngHow to use keywords effectively when promoting your offer on the internet doesn’t require any need to know anything technical. You should have fun when you are promoting your offers. Applying what you learn and developing an organised way of doing things will help you to develop interest in what you are doing. An important thing to remember is that whatever you’re promoting your keyword use needs to follow certain rules.
When you carry out your research look for something that is relevant. Relevancy is all important because you are answering someone’s problem or query. It will be totally useless to you and the visitor if you have chosen a loosely related keyword that doesn’t answer your visitor’s problem or query. It is true also that you are bound to have some visitors who really don’t know what they are looking for but in general treat your potential visitors as knowing what they are looking for.
This then raises the question of how to know what you are looking for. In truth, 40 to 50 per cent of the searches carried out via search engines, directories and ad sites are brand new and can’t be easily estimated. You can estimate the other 50 per cent and there are many tools to do this with. Google have their own tool as do many other sites and search engines. Use a variety of tools to learn about visitor behaviours such as what is being searched for and what is being bought. The more research you do to find a good keyword in a narrow niche with low competition and relevancy to what you are offering the better.
Then make sure you don’t over use or abuse it as the search engines don’t like it. You will also want to ensure that you don’t use too many other words or phrases on your own article, blog or webpage with your actual intended keyword as it confuses the spiders and bots. Don’t worry about how this all works as it won’t help to understand the criteria required. It is changed frequently to prevent spammers and illegal or illicit material and websites.
Assumptions are made on how often you use keywords. When we first started out we were told a variety of different approaches but if you settle for having your keyword every 100 to 250 words, using it with relevancy, optimise your page or website and try to use it in your first and last sentence it will be a good start.
As a footnote, there are no guarantees on your results as it really depends on what you have chosen to offer, how much competition there is and whether you are in a broad or narrow niche. But you should not worry, you should enjoy what you are doing and you will learn as you go along as there are a lot of people who can help you, including us. Doing this exercise should be fun and help you with building your offer.
